The Full Nakoma Story

California Real Estate Broker Mimi Garner is a 30-year resident of  Plumas County.
She has deep roots in the community as the original developer of the regions’s most environmentally-sensitive, 427 unit, 1280-acre Gold Mountain development -- which is now called the Nakoma Community.

Nakoma has become one of California’s most innovative and fastest selling
developments ever. 400 home sites sold over four summer seasons. In 2001, Mimi built the infamous and stunning 24,000 s.f. Nakoma Clubhouse designed by America’s greatest architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1924.  Not only was Mimi in the right place at the right time, but her life experiences were such that only she could bring Wright’s masterpiece to life 77 years later and get it showcased in Architectural Digest Magazine.

Come join Mimi this summer to celebrate
Wright’s 1924 Nakoma clubhouse design
and his achievements 100-years later.

Mimi also is proud to have built the 1997 LIFE Magazine Dream House which
resides in the Nakoma Community along with the award winning
18-hole Championship Dragon golf course designed by golf architect Robin Nelson
which was showcased in both Golf Magazine and Golf For Women Magazine
and tens of other major golf periodicals and TV shows.  The Dragon, notorious
as being the hardest course in California, both Spyglass and Cypress Point
redesigned their courses to make them harder in order to tame the Dragon.

It should also be pointed out proudly that the project was built almost entirely
using local workers.  The construction staff consisting of over 60 locals named
themselves the “Nakoma Craftsmen” and their motto against all
odds of building a Wright project was “Yes, We Can!”

Mimi’s pioneering can-do spirit and her Nakoma legacy is a tribute
to the American way and proof that the American dream is attainable.

Mimi leaves to future Plumas County generations a stunning project
that attracts visitors to the region year round.

The Nakoma project  is an American achievement of a Lifetime.  It showcases
the wonders of Wright’s genius.  The 1924 Frank Lloyd Wright designed
Nakoma Clubhouse, the Dragon “Send Me Your Heroes” mountain
golf course, the 427-home site Gold Mountain development and the
1997 LIFE Magazine Dream House is without a doubt a tribute
to individual and personal creativity.  Proof that American ingenuity
and the American Dream are achievable.

Mimi Garner has been a part of the Nakoma Community and Plumas County
economy for over 30 years helping to create and deliver good paying jobs for locals,
helping property owners navigate the real estate markets and
Mimi has brought many new ideas and new visions for the community to strive for.

At no other time has any independent small business person brought a  “public”
Wright building to life without the assistance of government funding.
Examples include both the Monona Terrace Madison, Wisconsin and
the Marin County Center government buildings.   A feat that's never to be repeated
because the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives are no longer open at this time
for future development of Wright plans because the students that
apprenticed under Wright are now all gone.

Mimi’s long-standing involvement in the local Plumas community gives
her an intimacy with the land she helps others own and manage, the
enduring resort she leaves for future generations to assess their
understandings of why they are put on this earth and what returns
their efforts will yield for future generations and the impacts that our decisions
have on the surrounding communities must be accounted for.

Mimi personally staked all of the home sites that constitute the Nakoma
development and she understands each home sites’ nooks and crannies.
Not only is Mimi an expert on Nakoma but she is highly knowledgeable
about the happenings in the county which serve residents from the far east
edge of Quincy to Chilcoot along Hwy 70, north to District 2
and south to the Sierra County border.

With Mimi’s in depth experiences at creating Nakoma and her contagious love
for the Lost Sierra region, Mimi is the perfect real estate Broker to help you
bring your dream of owning a mountain retreat or a small business, whether
it be in the Nakoma development or in the surrounding eastern
